How do you stop a bicycle bandit?

With a chain? A loop lock? Some Kevin McAllister-inspired contraption?

For Vince Cifani, the answer was simple: with an app.

On his daily commute through the chaotic streets of downtown Toronto (buses and streetcars and cars—oh my!), Vince had two constant concerns: safety and thievery.

Stress mounted. His heart rate skyrocketed. So, for some peace of mind, Vince designed an app that used public wifi networks to track his bike, giving him the freedom to work without worry.

Vince soon turned his savvy, bike-tracker app into a business. He founded Joyride in 2014, helping people launch and manage bike-sharing businesses with easy-to-use software for riders and operators.

Since then, Joyride has evolved into a global micromobility powerhouse.

Today, the app is equipped on fleets of scooters, golf carts, and industrial e-vehicles in over 200 markets. Millions of users have traveled more than 23 million miles on sustainable vehicles, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, easing traffic congestion, and giving people a fun way to get around.

What began as a theft-prevention gadget has grown into a global platform, empowering people and businesses with vehicles that are safe, sustainable, and affordable.

Vince continues to steer Joyride into new territory while inspiring entrepreneurs and innovators to follow their passions, both within micromobility and beyond. His advice: build with passion, or you’ll burn out.
